apple removes dutch casino apps

Since online gambling is illegal in the Netherlands, the Dutch gaming authority called Kansspelautoriteit, requested from the company to delete all casino related apps in the Dutch app store.

The gambling regulator in the Netherlands, later on, stated that 49 gaming applications were removed from the app store, with six more which were blocked a bit later. Some of which were owned by casino giants such as Bwin and Unibet. These casino applications are not available on Google Play in the country.

The fifty-five gambling applications are no longer available to Dutch players. The casino authority mentioned that they asked the company to block the Dutch betting apps from their store, back in May. They also said that online gambling has been illegal in the Netherlands for the last few years and that the companies who do not have the right to provide this type of service to the Dutch players, will be severely fined.

Recent reports show that more than a dozen casino and sports betting-focused sites based in the UK were recently blocked by Kansspelautoriteit. According to the Dutch gambling authority, deleting the gaming applications from the App Store, allowed the regulator to prevent approximately ten thousand illegal downloads.
